Sitting on a wooden shelf uncared for,
in a red leather jacket emblazoned “1994”;
while at housekeeping she flips its dusty pages,
with moving lips but inaudible she read to her fill.
“Is that supposed to be me – refrigerator built and shrew?”
“No, no,” he assured her
“Then who is it?” she demanded “This entry on March 28?”
“It’s my ….”
“And who’s this low-life you always meet at a street corner
and have a romp with in the back of your Toyota SUV?”
“Oh, that’s the mother of my children”
“Wow, don’t you remember how we got together?”
Ignorance is a sweet opium;
Inquisitiveness a compulsive beast,
Very much like an ambitious cobra
offered a mongoose for dinner, does he say
“Oh no, I’m better off on rats?”
When you read someone else’s secret
you get what you deserve.
